Vines that are evergreen often come to the rescue. Romantic, even magical, the right vine can climb your arbor, trellis, or wall and provide that critical design element. Consider 'Thorndale' for its dark, shiny leaves. If your garden is smaller, look at 'Wilson' with its small leaves. Another species to is creeping fig (Ficus pumila), which is a great evergreen vine for zone 9. These dense, dark green vines are good for sites with sun or partial sun. The former has pink-purple blossoms with a bright yellow heart that look like little wisteria blossoms. The pink bower vine offers pink trumpet flowers.
