Every so often, a fabulously stylish product drops into ALDI’s middle aisle, bringing that effortlessly elegant landscape-designer vibe on a bargain budget. And this Belavi solar light designed to look like a mini fire bowl, part of this week's ALDI's garden design finds range, is one of them. The colors are nicely understated, leaving all the glory to the floral laser-cut pattern and the flowery shadows they’ll cast. With a flickering flame effect that illuminates for up to 8 hours, that’s a lot of patio style for the price.

Two sizes are available. The standard weather-resistant metal bowl has a diameter of 7 inches and is 5½ inches high in a warm bronze, a bonny blue and a modern matte black, and is a snip at $12.99. The larger bowl brings a choice of a lustrous bronze-copper effect and that sleek black finish, and measures just over 9½ inches across and 7⅓ inches high, at $19.99. Personally, I’d play with the size difference and snap up one of each of the black designs. The dark colorway will also deliver the strongest contrast with the golden solar light shining through the cut-out motifs.

How to Light Your Outside Space

Lighting your garden is a must for the summer evenings to come, bringing a cozy ambience for evenings spent on the patio, and should be a core part of your garden design. Solar lighting is a quick and easy way to light your backyard, saving the expense of calling in an electrician, and it's worth understanding solar light ratings before you buy if you want products that will last longer than one summer.

Taking a layered approach to garden lighting is best, just as you would with interior fixtures, using a combination of strong overhead lighting with side or table lamps that give smaller, softer pools of light. In the garden, the warm illumination provided by a solar light such as this fire bowl will create an inviting glow at the center of a seating area, alongside more practical products that enable you to safely see your way around your outside space. Get it right, and it's a fast way to make a small garden feel much bigger.
