Bring outdoor pieces indoors and adapt them for use in your home décor. Old-time garden furniture and plant stands can be as charming and functional in the home as they are outside. Read on to learn more about creating some garden-house style in your home.

Bringing Outdoor Furniture and Garden Accessories Inside

There are many ways to create some garden-house style. Bringing garden accessories indoors is easy and fun. Here are some tips to get you started:

  • Who said a baker's rack was just for the kitchen or dining area? Why not move it into a bedroom or another room in the house to use for displaying prized collections, plants, or books.
  • Use end tables that are worn and weathered or are painted with a floral design. Consider putting a glass top over a garden bench and using it as a coffee table in the living room or den.
  • Use metal patio chairs as kitchen table seating and spruce them up with floral pillows or chair pads. Even an old weathered picnic table and benches can be used for adding garden-style charm to your home.
  • Make use of an old gate by implementing it as a headboard for a bed or as a partition in a room. For a lightweight option, hang a section of picket fence or garden trellis instead.
  • Light the room with table lamps that are low-key and having terracotta, wicker, or floral-motif bases. For instance, top a terracotta flowerpot with glass and use it as a lamp table. You can also use small clay pots to hold utensils in the kitchen or for storing other items throughout the home, such as pens and pencils.
  • Decorate with birdhouses and other similar garden accessories. A basket at the foot of the bed, placed discreetly in the bathroom, or one that is located in the living room works well for holding magazines and other reading materials. Additionally, an assortment of baskets can be used as storage bins. I like to keep one in the bathroom for wash cloths and soaps or for decorative purposes by adding artificial plants.
  • Find and use simple looking galvanized buckets as attractive centerpieces. I have one on the kitchen table filled with flowers. Smaller ones can also be used as interesting candleholders. Just hang them from a freestanding hook or set them as they are wherever you want some subtle lighting. Add a tea light candle and enjoy. You can even use them to store items much like you would with baskets. Display cut flowers in buckets or watering cans.
  • Mix and match checks, stripes, and floral patterns. Use these patterns for pillows, cushions, and window treatments to add a touch of the outdoors to your home. A trellis can be used to screen a window and looks lovely with a climbing plant.
  • Bring wooden garden shelving (with slats) into the house and use it for displaying houseplants or other objects. Even an old window frame has a place in the garden-style home. This can be used for holding pictures or attach hooks and hang small items on it. Don't throw out that old wooden ladder. Use it as an interesting quilt rack instead. Small step stools can hold plants or books.

There are numerous ways that you can use garden furniture and other accessories in the home. The best advice I could possibly give is to just use your imagination and be creative. There's no better way to express your passion for gardening or nature than to fill your home décor with lots of garden style.
