Ana de Armas recently blessed my Instagram feed with a carousel of quiet domesticity that made me immediately want to light every candle I own and pretend I actually have my life together.

In one particular shot, the second one in the carousel, to be exact, was a beautiful tableau that gave off all the cozy winter vibes: pink flowers in a simple vase, a glowing candle, and a spread of food that looked both casual and perfectly curated at the same time. It’s the kind of scene that whispers, “I woke up like this,” even though we all know it probably took 15 minutes, a curling iron, and nude lipstick to achieve. But every Parisian woman would tell you that’s exactly the point.

It’s not about performative perfection. It’s about taking everyday moments like your morning coffee, a lazy Sunday breakfast, or an afternoon snack and making them feel that extra bit special. Like the main character in your own movie, and honestly, don’t we all deserve that?

Start with the Flowers (Obviously)

Ana’s arrangement was not at all formal or too fussy, and if anything, the flowers are extremely easy to find and not expensive at all. The soft pink blooms can be recreated with flowers that are as cheap or expensive as you like. They can be anything from waxflowers, pink roses, ranunculus, tulips, or even carnations (which are wildly underrated and really having a moment right now). These live carnations from Lowe’s are the perfect color and budget-friendly.

The key is choosing flowers that feel warm rather than bubblegum bright. Think blush, peach, or dusty rose tones.

You don’t need a massive arrangement either, and in fact, a small to medium vase with 5-10 flowers has just the right amount of impact. The goal is a “I just picked these from the garden” energy, even if they’re actually from the Trader Joe’s floral section.

Trim your stems at an angle, remove any leaves that sit below the waterline, and arrange them loosely. No need for that tight, overly perfect florist dome shape; we’re not making a wedding bouquet. You can even let a few of the flowers tilt or lean; imperfection is intimacy.

Choose Your Vessel Wisely

Ana’s vase is a simple, understated ceramic piece, and it’s certainly nothing that screams for attention, which is exactly what you want. This moment isn’t about the vase, but the whole scene you’re setting.

Look for a vase or container in neutral hues like cream, terracotta, soft white or even a textured ceramic piece with a matte finish. This LuxenHome terracotta vase from Target is perfect as it doesn’t beg for attention, and it’s 10 inches tall. Clear glass can work too, especially if it’s in a vintage-style shape, like bottles or ribbed textures that catch the light.

Whatever you choose, keep it small enough that it won’t dominate the table but substantial enough that it still feels like you wanted it there.

Pro tip: Mason jars are cute, but maybe save those for a different area. We’re going for an elegant simplicity, not rustic farmhouse.

Layer in the Glow

The magic really happens when you add a candle or two, and Ana’s candle added a lovely glow that changed the entire atmosphere. There’s something about that warm, flickering flame that transforms a regular table into a whole experience (especially if your candle is scented). This Lulu Candles candle from Walmart looks luxurious but without the expensive price tag, and it comes in a variety of scents.

Pro tip: If you’re nervous about open flames around your flowers or you have pets/kids with zero spatial awareness, a high-quality LED candle can work just fine. The point is creating an atmosphere with soft, ambient light that makes everything and everyone look better.

Bring It All Together

Arrange everything (including your snacks) on the table, but give everything a bit of breathing room. It’s not a game of Tetris and doesn’t all need to be packed in. The flowers should be slightly off-center, as too perfect symmetry can feel stiff.

The candle can sit nearby, along with your food, within reach. If you have a linen napkin, toss that artfully near your plate, or add a book or magazine lying open if you happen to have one around. We’re taking it back to 2016 when flatlays were all the rage on Instagram.

The beauty of this setup is that it works at any table: kitchen, dining room, coffee table, or even a breakfast tray in bed if you’re feeling particularly indulgent.

Why This Actually Matters

Ana’s post reminded me of something very important: we spend so much time scrolling through other people’s beautiful life moments that we forget to create our own. Not for Instagram or for anyone else, but just because it feels good to treat yourself like you matter. Because you do.
