Last Christmas, my brother got me a surprisingly great gardening gift. He knows that I love to garden and that I write about plants everyday for my job, but that’s where his gardening knowledge ends.

That’s why I was shocked when he got me such a useful gift for working in my garden. He bought me a Home & Garden Trends Garden Kneeler and Seat from Amazon. Even though he doesn’t personally know the pain of bending and squatting from tending to your garden for hours, he knew this gift was just what I needed.

If you’re looking for the perfect gift for the gardener in your life, but not exactly sure where to start, then this garden kneeler and seat may be just the thing! It certainly was for me.

Why I Love This Gift

I’ve been thinking about adding a bench to my garden for the past couple years, but haven’t wanted to commit to a potentially high-priced purchase like that. But I still need a place to sit in my garden and take a break after weeding or planting. That’s why this kneeler/seat is exactly what I needed.

It not only gives me a place to rest for a few minutes before digging in again, but it also makes digging easier, too. The foam kneeling pad is comfortable on my knees and it’s low enough to the ground that I don’t have to bend far to reach the soil.

I normally squat when I’m planting, weeding, or spreading mulch, so being able to kneel saves me a lot of knee and back pain from gardening. I’m young and flexible now, but I know as I get older and keep gardening, this kneeler will become an even bigger help.

I’m also looking forward to using this kneeler and seat with my new raised garden beds. Raised beds are more accessible for many gardeners anyways because they’re higher off the ground and don’t require as much bending and squatting.

But this portable bench will make tending to plants in raised beds even easier. If I’m tired, I can place my seat next to my raised beds and tend to my plants from a comfortable seated position.

What to Know Before Buying

There are a lot of garden kneelers and kneeler/seat combinations out there. But this particular garden kneeler and seat from Home & Garden Trends on Amazon stands out above the others.

It comes with a handy canvas tool holder that slips over the side of the kneeler. Easily tote all your essential gardening tools like pruners, spades, seed packets, twine, and whatever else you need in the two spacious pockets.

This kneeler and seat is also easy to fold up and carry around the garden. It weighs less than 6lbs (2.7kg), so it’s light enough for almost anyone to use. Plus, you can fold it flat for easy storage. It will slip neatly into your garden shed or garage without wasting much space.

One issue with a lot of other kneelers is that they’re not wide enough for many gardeners’ knees. As someone with thicker thighs, I can attest that this kneeler has plenty of room for plus-sized gardeners. Of course, you can always measure your legs to make sure before buying. But for my size 14 body, this kneeler is just right. And don't worry about this kneeler collapsing – it can hold up to 330lbs (150kg).

A factor to consider before buying any garden kneeler and seat is stability. This kneeler is very sturdy and stable in the kneeler position, but a little less so when you use it as a seat. This is an issue with any product of this type, so just be aware that a portable garden seat is not as stable as a regular bench. However, I feel safe sitting on it as long as I’m on flat, solid ground.
