Bringing greenery indoors is nothing new, but there are ever-increasing ways to incorporate nature into our home design. Welcoming plants into our living environments can actually reduce stress levels. And they look great, too!
Biophilic design in homes uses plants and natural elements to nurture our mental and physical wellbeing. Plants can calm us and bring some much needed serenity to your indoor spaces. (Even fake plants can have a positive effect!)
The MITTZON frame from IKEA is a clever room divider that features planters so you can have a living wall in your home. This boost of green is sure to help you feel connected to the natural world.
The MITTZON planter allows you to divide up a larger space or give an area of your house a private, oasis-like makeover. Creating a living wall is often a pricey endeavor, but this budget-friendly frame is easier on the budget than a traditional living wall.
The casters on the base of MITTZON allow you to effortlessly move the planter so you can move plants closer to a window for a boost of light, or if you want to change your space and bring the verdant vibrancy to another room.
One thing that I particularly love is that this sturdy planter unit is more than 6 and half feet tall (205 cm)! It is a true room divider and living wall in one.
What to Grow in IKEA’s MITTZON Frame
MITTZON is the perfect solution for home chefs who want a convenient kitchen garden but don’t have the right outdoor space. You can grow herbs like thyme, rosemary, oregano, basil, marjoram, lavender, and more. Growing lettuces and salad greens in succession plantings will ensure you have a continual source of delicious leafy vegetables. And you can even grow a lovely dwarf tomato plant or two!

I would suggest adding some nice grow lights to the planter frame to ensure your veggies get enough light. These Barrina full-spectrum grow lights from Amazon have kept my plants and seedlings happy year after year.
If houseplants are more your vibe, MITTZON is a great planter for all of those low-light beauties. Plant ferns, ivy, spider plants, and philodendrons to add to the green wall effect. Their leaves and vines will drape down over the side of the planter boxes and really fill in the space. A serene and relaxing plant wall helps manage stress while also looking great.
More Options
In addition to IKEA’s MITTZON planter frame, there are some other wonderful options to use the vertical space in your home to display plants and create biophilic zones of relaxation.
